Wat zijn "stimulerende ervaringen"?: theorie van John Dewey als mogelijke aanvulling op de informatieverwerkings-benadering
- Peter Van Lonkhuyzen
Abstract
Analysis ot the experience of watching television, starting from Dewey’s esthetics. Watching television can become an ’esthetic experience’ when the experience, as an interaction between viewer, television program, and context, has the following structure: initial challenge or tension leads to a succession of activities resulting in a final consummation. Personal involvement from viewers with television characters is paramount. The structure is distinctly recognizable in narrative or sports television programs. It is said that this theory could well supplement the information processing approach, which regards the individual as an active seeker of information (stimuli). Starting from Dewey’s propositions, it would be possible to specify why certain types of information are more popular than others.
