Veranderen van dagblad?: een onderzoek onder potentiële en bestaande abonnees van de Waarheid
Abstract
At the end of 1982 the communist newspaper ”De Waarheid” decided to change the editorial policy in the hope to attract new subcribers from outside the restricted circle of party-members. Fall 1983 the new policy had become visible as witnessed by a study of the department of communication studies of Free University. From september through november 89 individuals from a leftist background were asked to read the newspaper in its new appearance for a period of two months. Before that period of two months participants in our study were asked to indicate whether they expected that reading the newspaper would be satisfying. At the end of the period respondents was asked to evaluate the newspaper and whether they intended to subscribe to it. Moreover, attachment to the newspaper respondents were subscribed to was assessed. As expected respondents who evaluate the communist newspaper negative did not intend to subscribe. However, very few respondents who had a positive evaluation were inclined to subscribe to the communist newspaper as well. Attachment to one’s own newspaper turned out to be decisive in this regard,
