Abstract

In time budget research, the time used for daily activities is registered in order to gain insight in people’s activities. By comparing several points in time, one can study developments through time. Traditionally, time budget research is done by means of a paper-and-pencil diary procedure. In this article, a computerized dairy procedure (electronic diary) is presented, together with some results of a small scale test of this procedure. The electronic diary is very userfriendly and efficient, and provides data that are more detailed and of a higher quality than data gathered by paper-and-pencil methods. The electronic diary is designed for continuous panel research. Combining single source time budget data with data concerning income and expenses, opens the possibility to segmentate homogeneous groups of consumers, based on life style instead of demografics.
