- Dirk De Grooff
Abstract
This article defines the potential competitive position of two mediaclasses, namely the printed and the electronic newspaper, in function of there functional technographic capabilities. In other words, the author has tried to quantify the technicity of the media on the basis of there user function. The general conclusion of this analysis is, that the competition between the printed and the electronic newspaper is primarily situated in the domain of short newsitems. For other categories of news, the printed and the electronic newspaper are complementary. These conclusions have to be put in relation to other factors that can influence the relationship between the printed and the electronic newspaper, like the economic position of these media and the uses and gratifications of the consumers.
