Abstract
Among the numerous works of the Mexican author Alfonso Reyes (1889-1959) there is a par¬ tial Spanish translation of Homer’s Iliad, which has hardly received attention by critics. This article starts by giving a survey of the circumstances in which this text came about. The main topic, however, is the presentation of a comparative study of source and target text. Several textual examples will prove that Alfonso Reyes treated the Homeric original in a particular way: he transformed himself into a modem Homer.
