Concepties van hellenisme bij Seferis, Kavafis en Forster
- Noor Vanhoe
Abstract
Hellenism is a complex concept that has been given many and often personal interpretations throughout the centuries. In this article I explore what Hellenism meant to three influential authors from the first half of the 20th century. I chose those authors – the Greeks Seferis and Cavafy, and the British Forster – because they implemented their personal views of Hellenism in their works, either explicitly or implicitly. For each author I analyse parts of their works and discuss the main themes of their personal Hellenisms in order to compare them to each other and to the traditions of Western and Greek Hellenism.
