Enkele hoogtepunten uit de Griekse sterrenkunde
- Christoffel Waelkens
Abstract
It is well known that ancient Greek astronomers reached unprecedented heights in their knowledge about celestial bodies, but less so how they achieved their remarkable results. Especially the ways in which Aristarchus came to a heliocentric world view and how Hipparchus determined the precession of the equinoxes, demonstrate astonishing intellectual skills. A striking fact is that Greek science flourished during the Hellenistic era, a time of economic welfare and international commerce, somewhat similar to our situation today.
