Abstract

This article offers an analysis of Margarita Lymberaki’s Straw Hats (Τα Ψάθινα Καπέλα) as an illustration of the altered nature of the female Künstlerroman in the 20th century. While highlighting the gradual evolution of the female protagonist towards an artist, more specifically a storyteller, the article’s main focus lies on the metafictional references that blur the boundaries between fiction and reality, and that echo the author’s achievement: the adaptation of male-oriented literary conventions in order to achieve a literature of one’s own.
