De representatie in de Turkse roman van de Grieks-Turkse oorlog van de jaren ‘20
- Johan Soenen
Abstract
Previously this article points out that the ‘genre’ novel did not exist in Ottoman literature and that the Turkish novel only in the twenties grew to full stature.Based on novels of Halide Edib (Atesjten Gömlek, 1922), Y.K.Karaosmanoglu (Yaban, 1933 and Ankara, 1934) and Kemal Yalcin (Emanet çeyiz, 1998) this article shows a ‘Turkish’ representation of the War of Independence (1918-1923) commanded by Mustafa Kemal (alias Atatürk) against the occupation of Turkey by the Greek army after the First World War. Halide Edib and Karaosmanoglu, the most important Turkish writers of that time, bring an eyewitness report of the war in question. In his book Emanet çeyiz Kemal Yalcin incorporates the tragic consequences for the Turkish as well as the Greek victims of the war.
