Modernisme en het vrije vers in de ‘muzikale’ gedichten van Giannis Ritsos
- Anneleen Léger
Abstract
This article studies the poems by Giannis Ritsos, written in the period of 19371942, that bear a musical title. It attempts to examine their role in the evolution of the poet from a traditional towards a modernist poetics. This evolution is evidenced by the presence of a series of modernist techniques that Western European and Modern Greek modernism have in common. As an example, two of these ‘musical’ poems are analyzed in detail. In both cases, moreover, attention is paid to another important factor related to Ritsos’ poetic reorientation: the abandonment of traditional verse in favor of free verse, accompanied by the appearance of musical titles as an indicator of the technique of synesthesia.
