Hadrianus en Athene: Wat vertellen Griekse epigrafische bronnen?
- Annelies Bossu
Abstract
The emperor Hadrian was known for his remarkable philhellenism. Consequently, his reign didn’t pass by unnoticed in Athens. It had an influence on the political, economical and religious aspects of the Athenian city life. This influence can partially be deduced from epigraphic evidence. After a short examination of Hadrian’s impact at Athens in the political and economical fields, this article focuses on the main innovation that was introduced during Hadrian’s reign in the religious sphere, namely the creation of the ‘Panhellenion’.
