________

Two (almost) forgotten books about the history of the Flemish movement
This contribution presents and analyses two almost forgotten publications about the Flemish movement; they both date from the nineteen thirties and were written by foreigners. The first book– A history of the Flemish movement in Belgium (1930) – was the dissertation of Shepard B. Clough, an American historian; the second– Die flämische Frage (1938) – was written by Hans Felix Zeck, a German sociologist/economist and confirmed nazi.
This article presents both the authors, describes the context in which the books were published and briefly analyses their content. Subsequently the reception of the books is described and finally the further course of the life of the authors and their principle mentors and sympathizers is discussed.
To some extent each of the books also exemplifies disciplines that were relatively new in those times: the first a study of a nationalist movement, the second a geopolitical analysis. The first book has stood the test of time as a scientific work, whereas the second book in spite of its informative nature continues to testify to a sinister period.
}, month = {6}, pages = {152-174}, publisher={ADVN | archief voor nationale bewegingen}, journal = {WT.
