De anti-psychiatrie en de sociologische beïnvloeding van haar uitgangspunten: een bedenking
Abstract
The anti-psychiatry and the sociological influence on its basic points of view. A consideration. - The anti-psychiatry criticizes the process which labels someone, who doesn’t conform to the social standards, as “deviant”. Social mechanisms, descripted by the symbolic interactionists, co-operate in the direction of this stigmatization. This sociological orientation pays attention to the strong symbolic significance of the interaction situation. The deviation is considered as a consequence of the labelling and its essence must be found in the stigmatization inside the interaction situation. In this article we will also recall the fact that the symbolic interactionists accept the dualistic composition of the individual. Beside the homo externus, who is exposed to continuous pressure of conformation, there exists a homo internus: the individual is able to keep a certain level of personal “freedom”. That’s the reason why tolerance of “deviant” behaviour is possible because it shouldn’t necessarily be considered as “ill”.
