Onderwijs en ongelijkheid: een sociologische analyse

Author

Abstract

Education and Inequality. A sociological analysis - The relation between education and inequality is studied by means of following a new population cohort till the entry into the labour market. The author distinguishes seven phases in this process, i.e. procreation, first life-stage socialisation, primary school level, transition to secondary education, high school level, transition to higher education and occupational status. The permanent educational selection to high social positions occur by way of social inequality of opportunity to success and participation. Social stratification and the structure of the educational system turned out to be the two principal factors in the reproduction of the “unfair race for unequal rewards”.
