Nieuwe perspectieven van overheidsvoorlichting
Abstract
New developments in the process of governmental information. - In this article the author discusses new developments in the process of governmental information services as a result of the diminishing social distance between government and citizens. Firstly, more citizens want more specific information on governmental activities. Secondly, democratic control requires not only information about formulated policy but also about policy intentions. This means that the governmental information offices have to explain all the possible policy alternatives in order to facilitate a fruitful public discussion. Thirdly, the author states that in the near future the governmental information offices will welcome more social research. Social research is needed to evaluate the effectivity of the used information services. Moreover the results of social research of public attitudes and motives further the feedback loop between citizens and government.
