Abstract

The immaterial injury suffered by the victim of a crime - The author provides a brief review of the immaterial (or psychic) injury suffered by the victim of a crime before focusing on what he considers to be the greatest psychic injury, namely the injury done to the consciousness of legal security which the victim has. The social-psychological foundation of this security is examined. The author discusses the power relationships and crime. He asserts that currently the discussion concerning power is too one-sided on a macrolevel. In spite of the importance in criminology of the discovery of power on a macrolevel, we must guard against one-sidedness. The individual powertrip at even the lowest level of human relations is no less important as the backbone of criminal reality than the social-economic powers. The author further elaborates on this idea using rape as an example. He advocates strictly upholding criminal justice systems in an effort to prevent the psychic injury suffered by the victim.
