Acculturatie en onderwijsproblematiek
Abstract
Acculturation and Education - The contact of rural societies in Africa, Asia and Latin America with western technology and western ways of life was at the beginning of a process of socio-cultural changes, which process generally is denoted as acculturation. Acculturation conceals a situation of conflict between ancient and western civilization, which has important repercussions on education. The child lives in a dual world: at home he is living in the traditional world, in school he is faced with the western world. The resulting tensions are described in detail by the author. He then discusses some of the measures proposed to facilitate the transition from family environment to school environment, more in particular: the possible use of native languages and the „ization” (i.e. „Americanization”, „Africanization”, ect.) of the contents of the programmes.
