Het studieobjekt en de metodologie van de wetenschap der internationale betrekkingen

Abstract

Subject and relations methodology has of the to science of international relations. – The science of international relations has to be considered as composed by two different scientific disciplines. First, there is the study of international public law. The international rules of law are based on recognition by States. The materials used by the international jurist are conventions and other diplomatic acts concerning international customs. The political scientist has a more complex subject of research. He has to count practically with all elements of modern sociology. There is no unanimity about the methodology in literature. The best way for making an investigation, is by starting an analysis with the study of the ideology. Once the ideological point of view becomes clear, it is necessary to analyze the factors States are using to obtain the realization of their political ideology. These factors can be economic, demographic, psychological as well as military. At last, it will be usefull to study the political strategy and tactics. Strategy is in contradistinction with tactics, the way followed by States to reach important political objectives. Tactics are technics used for reaching the strategical purposes. Political science and international law study are different scientific disciplines, but as international politics are the sources of the evolution of international law, it is impossible to make a complete scientific research for the rules of law without a study of international politics. Both are interdependent aspects of the science of international relations.
