Enkele opmerkingen over de prijstheorie
Abstract
Some remarks concerning the theory of price. By stressing the big lines in the development of the theory of price, we attacked the problem of price - and quantity- variation. We had the opportunity to show that - since Marshall - nearly all economists treat the quantity as the independent variable. Many authors seem to think that these procedure hasn’t any disadvantages. In our opinion, however, this view is not correct. We proved that especially in oligopoly situations, pricevariation has a rather different meaning to quantity variation. If we introduce the concept of elasticity, we can see this more exactly. Only in the case of monopoly the elasticitycoefficient is the inverse of the flexibilitycoefficient. Accepting these conclusions means at the same time accepting the importance of the element of strategy for the theory of price. So we conclude that the methods of the theory of games are very important with regard to the future of price-theory.
