Nederlands in Vlaanderen?
Abstract
Dutch in Flanders - This article provides a brief survey of opinions held by some prominent Flemish about Dutch language in Flanders. The author shows some results of a linguistic pragmatic discourse analysis of a polemic in a national Flemish Belgian newspaper during the winter of 1991-1992. The results describe some of the prevailing views of the Flemish about their standard language, about the pluricentricity of Dutch and about feelings of cultural unity in Flanders and The Netherlands. A last topic of discussion is the future of the language of the Flemish and the Dutch in a United Europe.
