Persoonlijkheidswaarden in de onderneming: het belang van intermenselijke respectcodes in de bedrijfscultuur
Abstract
Personality values in enterprises. The importance of interpersonal respect codes in corporale culture - Enterprises are often depicted as organizations in which instrumentally there is no place for moral values, as all human action is - within this context - instrumentally oriented towards profit maximization. In this article, it is argued that, although the primacy of strategic-instrumental action cannot be denied, enterprises could not even function if they could not also rely upon a totality of moral values which are often taken for granted. Thus, a value such as privacy has its place within the context of the enterprise. After having argued that the right to privacy has deontological as well as consequential dimensions and should thus be interpreted as a ’goal right’, the thesis is elaborated that developments towards ’flexibilization’ of working conditions and ’scientific management' of ’human resources’ can interfere with the physical and psychological integrity of workers as long as work itself and the personality of the worker are not valued intrinsically, for their own sake and dignity.
