Foucault’s conception of power in relation to scarcity and mimesis - An understanding of modern scarcity and mimetic eagerness proves fruitful to evaluate Foucault’s conception of normalization-power as offered in Surveiller et punir. Normalization-power needs a condition of scarcity and the presence of mimetic interactions in order to function. This insight is important for the conception of a ’counter-power’ in Foucault’s work. Mimetic eagerness can be countered by choosing an example of conduct in a conscious way. This action deprives normalization-power of its spell on individuals.
