Durkheim naast Durkheim: over "les formes" en "les règles"

Abstract

Durkheim vis-a-vis Durkheim. On ’Les formes..! and ’Les régies..." - Last year we published a synopsis of Durkheim’s study “Les formes élémentaires de la vie religieuse” in the series ’Social sciences classic’ (1992). While preparing this synopsis we regularly set eyes on Durkheim’s methodological manual “Les regies de la methode sociologique”, published seventeen years earlier. Here and there we commented in the margin how clearly one can read Durkheim’s methodology, and consequently also his concept of sociology, from his susbstantial texts - more specifically Les formes - but also how from time to time he moves away from positions he had taken up in Les regies. In this article we go systematically into some of these marginal notes.
