Rituele mobilisering: een kanttekening over gedragsbeïnvloeding
Abstract
Ritual mobilization. A note on behavioural manipulation - The present note on ritual mobilization highlights the problem of social involvement, which we assume to be a dual force - realizing and lending purpose to the existence of the individual self on the one hand, consolidating and giving shape to social reality on the other. In order to gain some insight into this problem several telling examples from everyday life are focused upon : the presence of wailing women at funeral rituals, the noisy aggressiveness associated with charivari from the 17th century onwards, the performance of ’la claque’ in 19th century Paris theatre life and the agitation engaged in by organized supporters at present day sports events.
