Over de effecten van de voltooiing van de Europese eenheidsmarkt voor het Afrikaanse continent
Abstract
On the effects of completing the European single market for the African continent - Until now very few studies have tried to quantify the external effects of completing the Internal Market, effects which theoretically could well be adverse. Taking the EC Commission’s estimates as inputs in the ARCA-World Model, practically neutral dynamic growth and trade balance effects are calculated for Africa, contrary to more outspoken negative effects for the South as a whole. These effects are evidently conditional upon the pursued common external commercial policy. As far as the distribution of these effects within Africa is concerned, among other things special attention should be paid to the position of oil-producers, and the retrograding impact of trade preferences.
