Cultuur-antropologische beschouwingen naar aanleiding van het werk van Piet Vroon, 'Tranen van de krokodil"
Abstract
Cultural-anthropological reflections on Piet Vroon s work ’Tranen van de krokodil’ (Tears of the crocodile) - In this article the author first analyses the new theory of P. Vroon, i.e. the relationship existing between the three autonomous parts of the human brain and, accordingly, the three different types of behaviour that we can detect in every man. Human behaviour, as Vroon argues, cannot be fully understood if one continues to believe in reason only without taking account of the more phylogenetic primitive parts of our brain as obtained from a long biological evolution. In the two subsequent parts of this article the author analyses some socio-cultural facts discussed by Vroon. As a matter of fact, he puts them in a wider context, namely that of social and cultural anthropology. Finally, he addresses the question if the cultural evolution of western societies is not a historical error, in the same way that mankind might be an error of biological evolution. The author considers the so-called ’primitive societies’ as the example to follow if mankind wants to survive in the future.
