De politieke psychologie van communicatie en informatieverwerking: een heuristisch model
Abstract
The political psychology of communication and information processing : a heuristic model - In political psychology the focus of interest is on the many ways in which psychological variables such as attitudes, value orientations, belief systems and motivations are interconnected with different forms and aspects of political behaviour. In this equation mechanisms of communication and information processing play a substantial role. The article attempts to postulate some general principles as regards the political psychology of these very mechanisms. More particularly, an attempt is made to clarify the complex and dynamic links between the recipient’s attitudinal system or information and his general political environment, viz. the set of power and interdependence relations within the confines of which the recipient communicates and processes information. The purpose is mainly heuristic. By combining a number of fairly standardized insights from such fields as cognitive psychology and information theory with elements from De Vree’s ’dynamic systems theory’ a new set of conjectures is projected onto the field of political psychology. The aim is to stimulate constructive criticism and further efforts at theoretical articulation.
