De hervormingen in Joegoslavië: van een socialistische zelfbeheerde economie naar een private markteconomie

Abstract

Reforms in Yugoslavia : From a socialist self-managing economy to a privatized market economy - The process of transformation of the Eastern European socialist economies has taken a specific form in the case of Yugoslavia. With its market socialist and self-managing structures it already incorporated a degree of freedom unseen in the other East European countries. However, this period of self-management in the economy and in society seems over. The article first discusses the theoretical question of whether a socialist system of self¬ management inevitably has to degenerate into a capitalist structure. This is followed by an analysis of current developments relating to economic and institutional reforms in Yugoslavia. We subsequently focus on the transformation of social property, the banking system and the capital market. Lastly, attention is paid to the ever increasing republican nationalism, which has dealt the final blow to the social economy.
