Import- en exportlogica in de Belgische Noord-Zuidhandel
Abstract
Import and export logics in Belgian North-South trade - The author performed an econometric study of trade flows between Belgium and about 60 lower developed countries. Results show that Belgian export flows can better be explained by 'economically rational’ gravity type models than corresponding import flows. This implies that non-economic factors (political, historical, ...) play a relatively more important role in trade from South to North. Further conclusions of the study were that economic rationality (as defined in the proposed models) in North-South trade increases with p.c. income levels of the southern partners and that rationality is increasing with time.
