De dalende vruchtbaarheid en het veranderend relationeel gedrag in de OESO-lidstaten: een bondige schets van de achtergronden, effecten en beleidsimplicaties
Abstract
Decreasing fertility and changing relational behavior in the OECD member states. A brief overview of the background, effects and policy implications - The present article aims at examining the consequences and policy implications of recent demographic changes, especially concerning reproductive and relational behaviour. Some attention is also paid to the social and cultural backgrounds of these changes. There are hardly any social areas which are not influenced by recent demo¬ graphic changes. These influences are briefly commented upon in the article. Though this is a merely analytical distinction, the consequences are considered on the individual, family, population and societal level. It is concluded that, with respect to these consequences, there is a need for an adequate policy response. In any case, the recent demographic changes call for an adaptive policy in a whole range of social and economic areas. In addition, one might consider implementing some measures aimed at influencing demographic processes. This demographic policy has to be, in any case, a policy aimed at raising people’s quality of life in such a manner that opting for children does not interfere with other basic options in life.
