Minderheid en meerderheid
Abstract
Minority and majority- This article deals with a homogeneous population which is divided into a minority and a majority because of some trait which is assumed to be in itself of no importance. Following the logic of Mancur Olson's organization theory, it is concluded that a minority organizes itself with more ease than a majority does. This organization is supposed to result in the emergence of a minority norm which states: ‘Help each other’. The smaller the minority, the stricter the norm. A simple model is used to show some effects of such norms on the allocation of resources in a population. The article concludes with some remarks about characteristics which are particularly suited for long term group formation.
