Horkheimer over het antisemitisme

Abstract

Horkheimer on antisemitism - In a previous study on the ’Frankfurter Schule’ and the Jewish problem (Tijdschrift voor Sociale Wetenschappen, Vol. 32, 2, 1987, pp. 99-122) we outlined the broad background of the ’Frankfurter Schule’ and the way the Jewish problem was introduced into this school. Against this background we situate, describe and analyse in the present article the five publications which Max Horkheimer (1895-1973) devoted to antisemitism. These texts are differently dated and have a divergent character. Therefore we will begin by putting the texts concerned into a broader framework. Next we offer a description of the content of the writings of Horkheimer. This résumé gives a lively picture of Horkheimer’s varied and many sided approach to the Jewish problem and to antisemitism. In the last part we present an interpretation of the texts treated, followed by a conclusion.
