Bij het overlijden van B.V.A. Röling
Abstract
At the death of B. V.A. Röling - On March 8, 1985, the Dutch polemologist Prof. B.V.A. Röling, died at the age of 79. In this contribution, the authors describe how Röling, who was a jurist in the beginning of his career, got interested in polemology and what he thought the goals of this discipline should be. In the second part of the article, attention is paid to what the authors consider as the ‘main lines’ of Röling’s polemological thinking: a. the role of armament and the arms race; b. the rejection of the classical CLAUSEWITZ-war; and c. the need for an international agreement concerning arms control and disarmament. Finally, an attempt is made to place his work in the light of the further evolution of polemology.
