Kunst als handelingsmodaliteit: een voorlopig paradigma

Abstract

Art as a modality of action. A provisional paradigm - Research into the meaning of art is traditionally dominated by philosophy and psychology. In this short sociological contribution art is described as a modality of action. Therefore we use the insights developed by H. P. M. Adriaansens in his recently published work on general sociology (The Hague, 1983). The paradigmatic reasoning elaborated in this article is meant as a methodological indication for the analysis of art as a cultural phenomenon. This analysis is based on the conviction that the study of art leads to useful results only when the explanation given of the production of esthetic objects is not reduced to one or just a few variables.
