De woonsituatie thuis van de minder-valide bejaarden

Abstract

The living situation of the physically handicapped — Very few numerical data are available on the housing conditions of the independently living elderly handicapped. From the scarce sources it appears that the dwellings which the elderly handicapped occupy do not often meet their specific needs. Nevertheless, most of the handicapped are satisfied with their places of residence. It also appears that they are very poorly informed about housing initiatives and allowances. The first principle of a policy should be to let the elderly handicapped live in their own environment as long as possible. Independent and integrated living is of primary importance. In connection with housing the necessary forms of assistance should be provided. Attention should also be paid to the housing environment. The inaccessibility of most public utility services constitutes a barrier to the possibilities of the physically handicapped.
