Communicatiebarrières tussen biologen en journalisten: maatschappelijke betrokkenheid als verklarende factor
Abstract
Although the European public is interested in science and technology, and wishes to gain information about it through media like newspapers and television, the attention devoted by the media to science and technology remains sparse. Since Krieghbaum this has been attributed a.o. to communication barriers between scientists and journalists. This article describes a representative study of such communication barriers by Dutch biologists and examines the role of personal and corporate social involvement may play. The study reveals only four clear barriers. In many cases they are indeed closely related to the social involvement of the persons concerned and of their organisations.
