Abstract

This article presents the results of an indirect political personality assessment and case study of the leadership qualities of Dutch ‘purple coalition’ cabinet leaders Wim Kok, Els Borst, and Annemarie Jorritsma, from the conceptual perspective of Theodore Millon. Information concerning the social-democratic prime minister-president Kok, social-liberal vice president Borst, and conservative-liberal vice president Jorritsma was collected from media reports and synthesized into personality profiles using the second edition of the Millon Inventory of Diagnostic Criteria (MIDC), which yields 34 normal and maladaptive personality classifications congruent with Axis II of DSM-IV. The study suggests that the ‘purple’ coalition has a stable ‘personal foundation’ in its ‘hoarding’ orientation.
