Abstract

By means of the Waarde Monitor an investigation is made about the differences between public and commercial television channels. It proves that the viewer sees a clear difference between them. They think that the public channels score on achievement, are socially oriented, have traditional values, go for safety and family life and go their own way. The commercial channels score completely on the opposite site. They score on relationships, are individually oriented, have contemporary values, go for challenge and freedom and score on conformity.
