Tien jaar Nederlandse kindertelevisie: het aanbod van publiek en commerciële zenders voor kinderen van 12 jaar en jonger
Abstract
This article contains a study on public and commercial television for children in the period 1989-1999. Children’s television expanded enormously, mainly on the commercial channels. Commercial programming consisted all the years mostly of purchased animation for children’s entertainment. Public television offered more genres, formats and self produced programs, and gave more attention to viewers of different ages. In response to commercial television, public television offered more self-produced and more informational/educational programs. Ratings declined in the last ten years, but on average public children’s television had higher ratings.
