Abstract

This article examines the scientific foundations, possibilities and restrictions of a media monitor. A media monitor can be used as a strategic and evaluative tool. In order to analyse a media profile, different types of news should be distinguished, since each type of news can have a different effect on corporate reputation. The three types of news in this study are news about support & criticism, news about success & failure and news about issues. As an example in this article, a media profile is made of ‘teachers and working in the educational sector’ by extracting the news from national newspapers and labour union magazines. The media monitor demonstrates the complexity of news.
