Abstract

The relationship between organizational communication and employees’ support for organization policies was studied using survey data gathered within six big Dutch organizations. It was hypothesized that the relationship between these two concepts was mediated by two employee attitudes: commitment to the organization and trust in management. Respondents were asked to judge five aspects of organizational communication: the quality of task-information, the quality of policy-information, the quality of feedback, the communication climate within ones department and the communication climate within the organization. Our results indicate support for the aforementioned hypotheses. An exception is the role of policy-information. Not only does it have quite strong effects on commitment and trust, but also strong direct effects on employees’ support for organization policies were found. Implications for further research are discussed.
