De invloed van ICT op de organisatiestructuur
Abstract
In this article the most imperative assumptions of previous research on the implications of ICT use on organizational structure are tested. The prevalent hypothesis in the literature is that the use of ICT corresponds with a flat, simple, integrated, and dynamic structure with geographic flexibility. The plausibility of this assumption is studied by means of ten in-depth interviews held in five large Dutch organizations varying in degree of ICT-use. The interviews largely confirm the changes in structure as mentioned in the literature. However, assumptions about the characterizations ‘flat’ and ‘simple’ may be challenged. Especially, the position of the support staff becomes more prominent under the influence of ICT.
