De universiteit in de informatiemaatschappij: naar een nieuwe leercultuur
Abstract
The article gives information on the use of different media platforms and network applications at the universities in Flanders. Computer applications, email and Internet have been generally adopted, although more for research and individual work than for educational purposes. The willingness to use multimedia and network applications in education is present but a lack of adequate infrastructure and software, experience, support and organization keep the individual instructors from using it. There is no doubt however that information- and communication technologies do influence the way we learn and teach. Lifelong learning is an irreversible trend. A new learning culture, in which the learning process and knowledge creation are central, replaces the traditional school culture, characterized by the standardized knowledge transfer and the hierarchical relation between professor and student. The university has to reformulate her mission to be of further importance in the information society of the future.
