De definitiemacht van journalisten: een casestudy naar de wijze waarop regionale dagbladjournalisten met informatiebronnen omgaan

Abstract

Journalists construct in their news reports social reality. They do so on the basis of information they get from sources. This study explores the methods regional newspaper journalists in The Netherlands employ when using information sources. It turns out that the organisation of news gathering and the professional opinions of the journalists are responsible for the important role socially acknowledged organisations and institutions (e.g. police and local authorities) play as information source. As a result these organisations and institutions play a rather decisive -reality defining.
