De begrijpelijkheid van het nieuwsbulletin op de BRTN-radio: kwantitatief en kwalitatief onderzocht
Abstract
This research project aims to optimize the comprehensibility of BRTN radio news for a cross-section of the Flemish radio audience. The research consists of three steps. The first step is a survey, sent to a representative sample of 2,000 people. The purpose of this survey is to gain insight in the way they seek information and listen to the radio, taking into account their social and demographic specifics. A second research step concerns the selection of news broadcasts. In a period of five weeks, sixteen broadcasts are randomly selected and subjected to a qualitative content analysis. The items are analyzed on three levels: that of the item itself, that of the sentence, and that of the word. The third research step consists of two parts and is carried out through three workshops. First, respondents are asked to fill in individual questionnaires testing their knowledge before and after listening to a news broadcast, their reproduction capabilities, and their appreciation of the broadcast. Afterwards, respondents take part in focus group discussions about context elements such as broadcasting time, presentation, and positioning of the broadcasts. This paper only deals with the first part of those workshops, focusing on the individual.
