Abstract

In this contribution we try to find out in what way teachers in elementary and nursery schools make use of the guidebook Jeugd&Gezondheid and what factors determine this use. For this study, a mail questionnaire was sent to teachers in elementary and nursery schools in Rotterdam and surrounding area. Interpersonal communication with peers is one of the main factors that determine the use of the guidebook. Two different processes seem to be important for the use of the guidebook. First teachers in elementary and nursery schools consult the guidebook if there is an immediate and urgent need for information on health and youth. Second, teachers read the guidebook because they have a more general interest in health information, not because of an immediate need for information.
