Abstract
Studies are available on emotional involvement while watching TV or film but not on emotion while reading. In preliminary exploratory research on emotional involvement while reading books, questionnaires were completed by 198 pupils, 106 teachers and 135 librarians. Some results may indicate a wider variety of emotional response among adult readers than among pupils, especially when dysphoric (unpleasant) emotions are concerned. Such results are in accordance with suppositions derived from studies on response to other media.
