Samen televisiekijken en conflicterende interesses
Abstract
Starting from the notion that discrepancies exist between viewers' TV-program preferences and their actual 'choice' of TV-programs, hypotheses are formulated about the impact of group viewing and VCR possession on TV-program 'choice'. The hypotheses are tested with data of the NOS Audience Research Department (n=1477). Besides the viewer's own interests, the interests of family members in sports and culture appeared to have direct effects on the time spend watching sport programme's and cultural oriented programs, although both in different ways. Appearing discrepancies between preferred TV-programs and viewed TV-programs are therefore, at least partly, a result of conflicting and competitive interests of family members. The possession of VCR appeared to have positive effects on the relation between TV-program preferences and actual viewer behavior.
