Abstract

In this study the central issue is, if and to what extent the Dutch broadcasting companies use a strict preassessed policy, when broadcasting music on television. Also, the relation is examined between the music offer of the various broadcasting companies and their identity, as expressed in the statutes and profile outlines of their audiences. The main motive was “Musik am Fernsehen’’, a study held in 1983 by a project group under the supervision of F. Hanecke, describing the Swiss situation with regard to music on television. They examined the way music is visualized on television (form) and which kinds of music is given attention to (style). Their original idea is applied to the Dutch situation.
