Abstract
Small media are increasingly proving their relevance in distance education in developing countries. This article addresses the role of radio in distance education programmes, especially in the context of adult education among the rural poor. Therefore information and instruction conveyed by radio and cassette programmes require special forms of ‘dramatisation’. Ideally, the programme formats should closely relate to local oral traditions of the audience.
